Lubbock, TX - The Lubbock Lights

Lubbock, TX. - While the town seems somewhat unassuming, Lubbock, TX always had a draw. Ancient people were hunting and cooking bison there 12,000 years ago, according to archelogical finds stored at the Lubbock Lake Landmark (which by the way doesn't actually contain a lake.) And who doesn't want to rock out at the Buddy Holly memorial dedicated to Lubb's most famous resident. I did. (Note: It appears that Buddy Holly's Statue is crying? Stigmata?)

​In the late summer of 1951, perhaps others were interested in visiting Lubbock as well.

Three Texas Tech professors witnessed several glowing objects in perfect alignment from their yards one evening. Several other locals also noticed them over subsequent nights and one student even snapped what would become some of the most famous photos in UFO-lore. Although student, Carl Hart's photos displayed a different formation from what the professors witnessed.

The professors were determined to find out what these objects were. Quickly, the Air Force agreed to investigate the matter and soon concluded they were "Plover" birds in formation reflecting newly installed street lights below. A farmer, who also witnessed the lights agreed with this theory as he was familiar with the birds. But not everyone else did.

Since then several books, magazines, conspiracy-theorist websites, news programs and random folks like you and I have speculated whether some unidentified flying objects flew over Lubbock that late summer. The Lubbock Lights story has also been the basis for countless Sci-Fi tales and films. Was something lurking over Lubbock that summer? Perhaps checking on it's past bison-cooking campsite? Or maybe just trying to overhear Lubbock hometown hero, Buddy Holly during his early teen rehearsals?
